I know the benefits of a CMS...it's my job to know it well and understand the value it brings to the table. Regardless, I was tickled pink to see the immediacy of my SEO work as our keyword density shot up a percentage after changing Webefx's site content via our CMS.
I started by analyzing our keyword density against a competitor's site. I was, shall we say, less then impressed with the results. No matter how much better we know our product offering to be, Google doesn't rank that kind of "insider info".
Google and other search engines rely solely on content. And by content I mean anything that's written in the code. This means that content exists in code that's weighed and ranked and not visible to the person viewing the site. This because web crawlers spider the actual code. Hence meta tags, alt tags, address tags and so on being important features.
I identified a few keywords important to our business that needed more presence. After gleaning this info from my research, it was time to implement it. In a matter of five minutes, I had changed our homepage content, and subsequently our keyword density. Improved keyword density is important for improving your search ranking as it's one of the main factors Google uses in its algorithmic ranking system.
Now it's just a matter of waiting for Google to re-index in order to register improvements to content.
Which means I can go get myself a coffee and kick back with the time I saved using the CMS to make changes.
